Cristian Bence-Muk

Cristian Bence-Muk (born on 31 st of August1978, Deva) graduated Composition at Gheorghe Dima National Music Academy, Cluj Napoca, Romania with PhD Prof. Hans Peter Türk in 2002 and in 2005 obtained the Academic Title PhD in Music with the specialization „Musical creation” with PhD Prof. Cornel Ţăranu. Curently Cristian Bence-Muk teaches „Form and Musical Analysis ” and „Composition” at Gheorghe Dima National Music Academy and holds the position of the President of the Senate within the same instituition.

His compositions includes choral pieces, vocal, chamber, symphonic, vocal symphonic works, chamber opera and ballet. Cristian was awarded various national prizes (including the “George Enescu” Composition Prize of the Romanian Academy for 2021) and his works were performed in concerts in Romania and abroad ( France, Italy, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, U.S.A., etc) and were published in Romania and Switzerland.

As a project manager, he coordonated two projects financed by the National Council of Research (2006-2007 and 2010-2013). These projects have stimulated the composition, interpretation and the musicology research in the contemporary music domanin. He was actively involved in various syncrethic cultural project regarding the relation between music, on one hand and literature,painting, sculpting and filming, on the other hand.

Alongside with the new music’s projects, starting with 2013 he arranged and orchestrated 28 vocal-symphonic Romanian carols, (the first 14 were reunited on the CD „Maria se preumbla”/„Mary was wandering” that has been sold nationaly in more than 10.000 pieces), endeavour for which he was awarded an international excellence prize, „for the vocal and symphonic arrangement of the Romanian Christmas Carols” – „LSM Excellence Award 2019”, Chicago. On the 11th of June 2022 he was elected Vice-President of the Union of Composers and Musicologists from Romania.
