After acquiring a solid basic knowledge in music from his father, Dorin Pop, an eminent professor and choir conductor, he studied composition at the \u201cGheorghe Dima\u201d Music Academy in Cluj between 1970 and 1976, with professors Sigismund Todu\u0163\u0103 and Cornel \u0162\u0103ranu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adrian Pop won his first composition awards while still studying: the \u201cDinu Lipatti\u201d Prize and the National Award of the Art Institutes (1974). A series of further distinctions followed, marking the progress of his career as a composer: the Romanian Composers\u2019 Union Prize (1978, 1981, 1989, 2011, 2015), the \u201cGeorge Enescu\u201d Prize of the Romanian Academy (Bucharest, 1996), prizes at the international composition contests in France, Italy, Austria, Spain, South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A long term association bound him with the prestigious \u201cTransilvania\u201d State Philharmonic of Cluj, as an artistic advisor and general director. He has been Rector of the \u00ab&nbsp;Gheorghe Dima&nbsp;\u00bb Music Academy, where he is currently teaching composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is the recipient of the Cultural Merit Order extended by the President of Romania and of the \u00ab&nbsp;Ordre des Arts et des Lettres&nbsp;\u00bb conceded by the French Ministry of Culture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Adrian Pop Adrian Pop was born in 1951 in Cluj.
